Time for a quick walk up to Down Tor and then across to Combeshead Tor before descending to Cuckoo Rock. It was all in the name as I heard the first cuckoo of spring whilst walking back to Norsworthy Bridge!!
Start – Norsworthy Bridge parking |
Route – Snappers Tor – Down Tor – Down Tor Stone Row – Hingston Hill – Combeshead Tor – Cuckoo Rock – Norsworthy Bridge |
Distance – 2.5 miles Start time – 11.20am Time taken – 2 hrs Highest Point – Combeshead Tor 371m |
Weather – Cloudy and cool |
A lovely photographic record of the walk. This is an enjoyable little walk which I have done three or four times, though for me, nowadays, I would no longer call it a ‘little’ walk. It’s strange what you said about the cuckoo, as twice I have heard it when getting near Combeshead Tor. This year I got a little way past Down Tor when I heard its call.

This is a nice walk when you don’t want to go too deep into Dartmoor and you still want to see plenty of sights

Agree, and there is plenty of interest, especially DownTor/Hingston Hill stone row. A spectacular monument! …Plus the views are rather nice

I love the views back to Burrator reservoir from Down Tor. Down Tor is also my favourite tor because it was my first
