Bowden Tor

This huge tor sits just inside the eastern edge of Shaptor Woods, the easiest way to this one is over a stile on Furzeleigh Lane, just to the south of the junction with Bowden Lane. A good footpath leads into Shaptor Wood here, however don’t follow it, head into the trees to the left where you can see the odd rock at the top of a rise in the ground, head down into the woods further to uncover this tor. The outcrop is very large and boulder upon boulder falls down the hill, with one producing a large overhang. This is within the woodland so the view is gone, except from the odd glimpse in the winter across to Black Hill and Haytor. There are no military areas near here.
