Brecon Beacons

This page will cover the mountain range in South Wales stretching from the Black Mountains in the east including Waun Fach, through the central section and Pen y Fan to the Black Mountain in the west and Fan Foel. The total area of the National Park is 519 sq miles and the walking here is great, with high mountains over 800 metres and plenty of green hills in between. There are also plenty of smaller gems and single hills. The glacial valleys provide some fantastic edge walking and steep sided drops, variety everywhere when walking in this area. The Brecons are also widely used by the SAS as a training area to test their fitness, you’ll see them regularly yomping over the hills and mountains as I did when I walked Pen y Fan.
