Mardon Down

Mardon Down is quite a large area which sits to the north east of Moretonhampstead. The high point is the western side with its stone circle. On the eastern side stands the Headless Cross (which probably wasn’t a cross at all!!) The views from here to the south are good, over Blackingstone Rock towards Haytor, in fact this, along with Butterdon Hill are the highest points to the east of Moretonhampstead making the views in all directions very good. There are dozens of paths across the down with a parking spots in the south western corner and by the Headless Cross. There are no firing ranges near here.
