This pub sits in the small village of Meavy in the South West corner of Dartmoor, near to Yelverton. The pub itself is owned by the parish (one of around a dozen in the country), and a percentage of any profit from the pub goes back into the parish itself, this also means the parish council can set things like opening times. The pub sits on the village green, by the church and the Royal Oak tree, where it gets its name. It is documented that the pub has been in existence since the 1500’s and was previously known as the Church House Inn, although older reports say a brew house was onsite from the 1100’s.
