Meldon Pool

Meldon Pool is a flooded disused limestone quarry which sits just to the south of the Meldon viaduct. It has a depth of around 40 metres and today is a site of wild swimming and occasional diving (the Meldon bomb), however I would not recommend the latter. One person has drowned in this pool, back in 1936 a person went missing, eventually their body floated to the top a few days later. Nearby limestone kilns are testament to the quarry which is now full of water.
