Beardown Tor

Beardown Tor (or Beardown Tors) is made up of three separate stacks of granite, looking like three individual tops but making up one tor. Beardown Tor lies on the edge of the Merrivale firing range and the evidence can be seen with a military flag pole on one of the stacks and a hut on another. Sitting on high ground between the Cowsic and West Dart valleys, Beardown Tor has fantastic far reaching views particularly back towards Princetown. The easiest approach to Beardown Tor is to park at Holming Beam, follow the military track firstly north and then easterly and down to the Cowsic river, cross the bridge and head up the grassy path to the tor. The area around the Cowsic can be boggy so beware.
