Great Staple Tor has one of the most striking summits of all the tors on Dartmoor. There are a number of stunning piles of weathered granite on top of each other making for a spectacular sight. There are superb views across to Great Mis Tor and round to North Hessary Tor, with even finer views to the south to Plymouth Sound and west to Cornwall. With Little, Mid and Great Staple Tors in a line and following that Roos Tor it makes for an easy but fine walk from the Merrivale car park. Link in Cox Tor on the return journey and you have a fine circular walk.The Merrivale firing range sits around a mile north and a mile east from Great Staple Tor.
