This tor sits beside the road that runs down towards Hound Tor car park. In fact many Dartmoor visitors will carry on north past this tor, none the wiser, heading for Jay’s Grave and Hound Tor. It took a while to learn the name of this tor, however it was obvious really, Holwell Rocks. The views from here are dominated to the east by Haytor and the many tor formations in that area. Look north across Holwell Lawn in late spring and you will see one of the best open air bluebell displays that can be seen (I’ll take your Rannerdale bluebells in the Lake District and raise the bar!!). For such a small rocky outcrop this one is a great place to sit away from the hordes on Hound Tor and Haytor. There are no military firing areas near here.
