Lydford Tor is one of those tors that’s easy to miss when you look at what is around it. Beardown Tors sits in front of Lydford Tor, when approached from the Two Bridges direction, in comparison to Lydford Tor the three piles at Beardown Tor shout at you and demand your attention. Higher ground sits behind Lydford Tor in the form of the ominously sounding Devil’s Tor! Either side are the valleys and rivers of the Cowsic and West Dart making Lydford Tor easy to overlook. This tor sits on the popular walking route of the Lych Way, a moorland pass for the carrying of dead bodies to Lydford church. With so many other tors within spitting distance of this tor it’s well worth the effort to stop and take in the view. Lydford Tor is within the Merrivale firing range so always check the firing times before heading out this way.
