Thornworthy Tor

Thornworthy Tor sits just to the north of Fernworthy Reservoir Dam and is a simple walk up from the path that circles the reservoir. However heading further into Dartmoor, or to any of the other surrounding tors can prove a little tricky. Boggy ground sits to the north and east of this tor and even following the paths will mean wet feet at some point, especially in and after wet weather. The tor itself gives tantalising views north to Cosdon Beacon, Kennon Hill, Wild Tor and Watern Tor. Whilst Kes Tor and Middle Tor sit just to the east. Myself, if I was planning to walk here, I’d take the uncertainty out of the walk and circle the reservoir and include and out and back to the tor, there is a gate that leads out to the open access land south of the tor. The easiest way to the gate is to follow the grassy path leading away from the dam and reservoir up the hill. This tor does not lie within any of the military areas.
