Drewe Arms

This pub has a bit of history, there are surviving licensing records back to 1756 for this place, with a John Smith as the licensee. By 1919 a certain Mabel Mudge became the licensee with her husband Ernest, Ernest died in 1951 and Mabel continued as landlady until she was 99, retiring finally in 1994 and dying herself in 1996. She holds the record for the longest running landlady or landlord in this country’s history, with an astonishing 75 years service. After two more different licensees, the pub shut its doors in 2013 for the first ever time, reopening in 2015 under Gary Hitchin’s stewardship it stayed open through Covid but being tied to a brewery it became unviable and closed again in 2023. The community bought the pub in 2023/24 and it reopened in April 24. Long may it continue.
