Bigbury has a nice little beach, an ice cream hut and a sand bar that on a low tide uncovers itself and allows you to walk across to Burgh Island. Fear not if the tide is in as there is a sea tractor which will ferry you across to the island. Burgh Island holds a hotel (made famous by Agatha Christie’s novel ‘And Then There Were None’. It has also been used a filming location for Hercule Poirot, the Beatles have stayed here and it is claimed that both Edward and Mrs Simpson stayed here, also that Eisenhower and Churchill met here before D Day. I can imagine that they were spared the astronomic car park prices enforced when parking here though!
