This rifle range was built in 1942 as need for further military training facilities increased as WW2 progressed, it sits on the road from Halshanger to Cold East Cross. The rifle range spans around 500-600 metres in length, with 6 firing points (banks) along its length. There is one singular target area or markers gallery, were the targets would be raised for firing. The stop butt is behind that, a large brick wall filled with sand, dirt and gravel to stop the bullets. It was decommissioned in 1977, after much campaigning that firing here was a danger for passing walkers.
