This ford lies to the west of Steeperton Tor and if you come from that direction you will drop down steeply to this spot. The ford itself is fairly wide but the River Taw which runs through here on its way to Taw Marsh can easily be jumped either side of this as the river is very narrow at this part of its course. Further up the course lies Knack Mine, or Wheal Virgin as it is more popularly known, which gives its name to this ford. This is a remote part of the moor however the military tracks around these parts lead you here easily.
