This is an old pub with an even older back story. This was a 13th century manor house, which changed into a pub, it is believed, around the 16/17th century. It played its part in the English Civil War with a cavalier (Royalist) being killed in the porch by a roundhead (Parliamentarian). Thankfully now it is just a good Grade 2 listed pub and B&B sitting in the centre of Chagford, a place with 4 pubs so perfect for a pub crawl in itself.
