Grippers Hill

Another place on Dartmoor where I haven’t a clue where the name comes from. Its certainly not as the name suggests, particularly gripping! Its similar to other hills on the southern moor, like Ter Hill and Skir Hill, in that it has no real summit tor as such and is a fairly flat grassy area. I used the cairns marked on the map as the summit and from here the views are decent, its a fairly simple walk to here from Shipley Bridge, taking in Avon Dam on the way. There are no military firing areas near here.
