Shovel Stone

The Shovel Stone sits on Blackslade Down near to Top Tor and should not be confused with Shovel Down which is much further north near Fernworthy Reservoir. In fact this stone is often confused with a nearby rocky outcrop, Lower Top Tor(towards Bonehill Rocks and the road). The Shovel Stone is this small rock which sits in a direct line between Top Tor and the Rugglestone Inn (in Widecombe in the Moor). Its a good spot (although in summer bracken will grow around it) with good views down to Widecombe and across to Hameldown Beacon and like many of the other tors here there is plenty of parking to the north on the B road. There are no military firing areas near this rock.
