Steeperton Tor

Steeperton Tor is as its name suggests is a pretty steep conically shaped tor in north Dartmoor, especially when viewed from the north. Any approach, except from the south, requires a lung busting steep climb to its summit. My favourite way up is from the south east heading across from Wild Tor. Steeperton Tor is surrounded by water on three sides, with Steeperton Brook and the River Taw on the east and west sides. Taw Marsh is to the north meaning a damp approach from that direction. The views are stunning, particularly across Taw Marsh. The Okehampton firing range starts here at Steeperton Tor with a military hut and a flag pole at its summit.
