This is a fairly large rock sitting on the side of the western slope within Houndtor Wood, to the west of Lustleigh village. The outcrop is surrounded by trees so the views are non-existent but its a worthy outcrop that would have stood out before the trees grew. William Crossing in his book noted this rock as a notable landmark. The rock sits off the Dartmoor Way as its passes through Houndtor Wood, and as you reach a gate to head the the hamlet of Water, take a right and follow the track, after a short while head up left and follow a narrow path. This leads to Water Rock which will be up on your left, after leaving this rock the path drops steeply down towards the Lustleigh clam bridge, the path can be very slippery in winter so beware. There are no military ranges near here.
