Meavy Church

St Peter’s Church in Meavy was built during Norman times (1066-1244) and extended extensively in the 1400s. Meavy is a small village sitting near Yelverton in the south west corner of Dartmoor, with the church and green the heart of the village. The pub (Royal Oak) is nearby alongside the Meavy Cross, believed to the a worshiping place prior to the church. The Oak tree on the green is believed to have been planted when the church was built, making it around 900-1000 years old. One of the stained glass windows in the church came from the William Morris school.
