The Tolmen Stone is a large boulder that sits in the North Teign river, near to the Scorhill Stone Circle, with a large hole in it. The hole was formed by river friction over many, many years and is large enough for an adult to get through at around 1m in diameter. The name Tolmen comes from the celtic of tol, meaning hole and maen, meaning stone. The story goes that if you pass through the Tolmen Stone then you will be cured of your ills, especially rheumatism!!
