The church of St Pancras nestles within the classic moorland village of Widecombe, titled as the Cathedral of the Moor. It has been here since the 14th century with various improvements and changes since then. In 1638 the tower was struck by lightning in a huge storm and written on four large slabs of wood is the testament to the event. A model of Uncle Tom Cobbly also sits within the church, riding to Widecombe Fair and the cut off rood screen depicts many of the saints who were praised.
