Blackalder Tor

This is one of three tors on my list that is not within the Dartmoor park boundary, one other is nearby Whitehill Tor. These two tors sits pretty close to each other with only a few hundreds metres separating the two. The views from this tor aren’t too bad, although the new Tungsten mine and the china clay workings do blot the landscape somewhat. There is a useful disused railway track that leads up from the road below this tor, once you level out you will see the tor on the left up in the trees it can be a tricky climb to the top. On a clear day Plymouth can be seen from here. There are no military firing areas around this tor.
