Whitehill Tor

This is a small tor and one of three on my list that is not inside the Dartmoor National Park boundary don’t confuse this one with White Hill, over on the western side of the moor in the Willsworthy firing range. This small tor sits just to the south of the southern edge of Dartmoor near to the village of Lee Moor. Its right in the middle of all that is bad around Dartmoor with the huge scars of the China Clay works and the new Tungsten mine surrounding this tor. These dominate the view in all directions. The walk here isn’t hard at all, being 20 metres from the road, with parking spots in Lee Moor village or 100 metres down the road from the tor, and the outcrops themselves are pretty good, especially when the bracken is down. No military firing areas near here.

The boys on Whitehill Tor

And again with Blackalder Tor behind then

The clay workings, not pretty are they

The view east offers some respite, I think that is Western Beacon in the far distance
