East Hill

East Hill is a small hill that sits near to the Okehampton Camp in the northern part of Dartmoor, infact there’s not a lot else north of this except the A30 and Okehampton! The best views from here are obviously northwards towards Okehampton, although the higher tors around West Mill Tor are visible to the south west. There is a trig point at the summit and in the spring a fantastic bluebell display. At the eastern end is Ashbury Tor as the hill falls steeply down to Moor Brook and the East Okement River through the woodlands. The easiest route here is up from the road that leads to Okehampton Camp, passing through the gate to Lower Halstock farm and onto East Hill. There are no military firing areas on this tor however being so close to the camp you won’t need to travel too far to walk into the Okehampton Range, so beware of the flags and warnings.
