Heading deeper into Castor Woods, passing Kelly Mine Tor and Little Castor, you begin to head uphill, steeply if you take the direct route. At the top of this hill there is a fence, an open field beyond and Higher Castor, sitting just inside the woodland. Its a fine tor which if it was on the moor proper it would be one of the best. There is a part of the outcrop, as it drops a little down the hill, which allows a view down to Bovey Tracey and this shows how big an outcrop this one is, as the outcrop carries on up the hill. This is a tricky outcrop to get to, first find the Kelly Mine path and leave the path easterly below the gate halfway up that path. Head first to Little Castor, then either steeply upwards, or follow the zigzag grassy path which will help with the gradient. There are no military firing ranges here.
