Like nearby Wacka Tor this one will be another that is infrequently visited. This may well be because there are better places around these parts or its tricky to get to. If you want solitude then this is the place. You’ll probably see walkers up on Three Barrows but not many here. On the map the tor summit is marked as a cairn, which its is not. Its definitely a tor. The views to the south are great, across South Hams to the sea, with Brent Hill standing out. To the north the ground slowly rises up to Three Barrows and Quickbeam Hill meaning the views are blocked that way. As a result the tor doesn’t sit at the top, more on the side of the hill looking down to Bala Brook. You can get here from Ball Gate heading up to Wacka Tor and crossing Red Brook or you can come from Shipley Bridge, past the water works and then cross Bala Brook, which isn’t easy. There are no military firing ranges near here.
