Rival Tor appears to sit in a bit of a basin, surrounding by higher ground. one side is Kennon Hill and Scorhill is to the east. Wild Tor and Watern Tor are to the west and Fernworthy is to the south. The vast basin in front of this tor is Gidleigh Common, with the Walla Brook and the North Teign river spreading out below. All this makes Rival Tor a difficult place to get to, in truth the only path is the one from Scorhill around to Gallaven Mire, even then there isn’t much of a path to get you to the summit tor rocks. Still it gets few visitors and I like it for that reason. Rival Tor is not in any military firing area.
