Manaton Church

St Winifred’s Church in Manaton sits beside the village green and cricket pitch, nestled under Manaton Rocks, in a lovely location. The current building is a medieval church built in the 15th century but there has been a church here since 1265. Disaster struck the church in 1779 when lightning destroyed the tower and falling debris fell into the chancel, smashing the stained glass. There is a medieval cross in the churchyard plus a yew tree which is believed to be the oldest on Dartmoor.
