Hooten Wheels was a fairly large tin mine on the side of the O Brook in central Dartmoor. The actual mine area sits between Skir Hill and Down Ridge and was fairly successful and there was another tin mine nearby, so the amount of tin in the area must have been substantial. The mine itself only closed after a serious storm in 1920 which devastated the mine and area. There are good tracks to this mine from Hexworthy and whilst there are no buildings left standing the landscape shows how heavily it was worked.
