Black-a-tor Copse

This is one of three high altitude oak woodlands on Dartmoor, the other two being Wistmans Wood and Piles Copse. As with the other two, the trees in the copse are smaller than normal due to the environment and the ground beneath them is a carpet of lichens and mosses. The woodland is managed by Natural England and looked after carefully due to the amount of rare plants growing within the woods. The copse itself sits right beside the West Okement river underneath Black Tor in northern Dartmoor.
