As the name suggests this cleave runs from the village of Belstone to the east towards another village called Sticklepath. It runs for about a mile and is now heavily wooded on both sides, with tors on each side, including Ivy Tor and The Cliff, with Middle Down Tor at the Sticklepath end. The River Taw runs through the cleave, carving its way out from Taw Marsh on its route towards Barnstaple. In years past there was a mine on the southern side of the cleave, alongside a firing range with the target sitting west of Ivy Tor also on the south side, and the firing mounds on the northern side at 100 and 400 yard ranges. A metal box (the target) still lies not too far from Ivy Tor.
