Holme Fell

After two days of fantastic sunshine the inevitable happened with rain most of the day on the Sunday and some again Monday morning, thankfully it brightened nicely in the afternoon allowing a nice walk from the house up to Holme Fell. I have to say our route up wasn’t conventional and we certainly lost the path around the two tarns to the north of the summit which made for a boggy ascent. However we made it and we were rewarded with great views of Windermere and across to the Langdale Pikes.

Start – Birch House near Three Shires Inn
Route – Stang End – Hodge Close – Holme Fell – Holme Ground – Hodge Close – Stang End
Distance – 4 miles    Start time – 13.30pm     Time taken – 3 hrs    Highest Point – Holme Fell 317m
Weather – Cloud clearing for a sunny day, quite warm
