A birthday walk around Avon Dam which didn’t quite go as planned. The ford which was marked on the map even after a long period of dry weather was 12 inches deep which meant boots off and wading was in order!! Still an area I’ve never been to before and its better than sitting in an office!!

Looking up the return route, here we turn left

Higher up and we get views to Shipley Tor

Looking down to Black Tor from Brent Moor

The submarine like Eastern White Barrow in the distance

Avon Reservoir from Brent Moor

The end of Avon Reservoir we headed down to the left of this photo

We should have crossed the ford here as part of the Abbot’s Way. I can only assume they got their feet wet normally!!

Looking back in the direction of Avon Reservoir

As we come round the corner the reservoir comes into view again

Looking back towards our ‘ford’ the dimple on the horizon in the spoil heap at Redlake

Looking towards the dam over Avon Reservoir
