This walk was done on the same day as the St Just to Pendeen section and the weather was just as good here, as it was on the north coast, all very hot and sunny as we walked the seafront. There isn’t much to this part of the coastal path, although I liked that it stayed close to the sea, similar to the Plymouth Hoe section and didn’t divert into the shopping streets like the Newquay part. We’d arrived here by bus from Pendeen and we walked almost to Newlyn before heading off up the hill to our accommodation for the night. It ended a really gorgeous day on the coastal path, tackling two very different sections. The next day was all change, heading back to Porthcurno and the car.
Start – Penzance Bus Station
Route –South West Coastal Path – Penzance Harbour – Jubilee Pool – Wherry Town – Mount Misery – Pirate Inn
Distance – 2 miles Start time – 2.45pm Time taken – 1hr Highest Point – Hardly any height at all
Looking along the seawall as it heads around the bay towards MarazionSt Michael’s Mount is also across the bay, lots of white fluffy clouds overheadPenzance HarbourAnother view across to St Michael’s MountThe Penzance Lido, there were a fair few people in the waterWe will carry on along this part of the seawall towards Newlyn which is on the left of the photoLooking back to the lido across a millpond of the seaNewlyn is over there, we will walk through that tomorrow, the point on the left is Penlee PointOne last look across the bay to St Michael’s MountOur accommodation, which was pretty good, decent food as well. The end of a stunning day of walking which started in St Just, around Cape Cornwall to Pendeen. Before a bus to Penzance and then walking the seafront. Next walk was our final day down to Porthcurno, the weather wasn’t looking as good as this but the hope was we would get back to the car before the worst of the rain hit us.
We have one here in Plymouth as well, although the Penzance one had 3 separate sections, allowing them to heat one of them. Plymouth’s is one large semi circular one and needs a fair bit of sun to warm up
I think the nearest one to us is Ilkley, though not quite the same, as not by the Sea! Grange Over Sands been trying to get it’s lido up and running for years, would be great if it eventually can.
Not sure I’ve been to Penzance since a day spent with my Nan in the shops and penny arcades while the rest of my family went on a day trip to the Scilly Isles – apparently I was too young at age 9 and I’ve been bitter about it ever since! Always like a town seafront walk and that Lido looks nice
I have always wanted to go to a lido. Penzance looks a nice one.

They are good if they can be maintained

If they reopen the Lido and create a pedestrian bridge alongside the viaduct, I would be made up. I shan’t hold my breathe however.

What, no beer of food porn from the pub? I always forget to take photos – too busy stuffing myself!

I’ve normally remembered to take a photo of an end of walk pint, but not sure either the food nor drink lasted that long

The Lido did look very good and it was a hot day, shame I wasn’t carrying my swimming stuff with me
