So at the end of October we moved to a new house in a newly built town on the edge of Plymouth. Some of it sits within the Plymouth boundary and the rest has crossed into South Hams. The building companies have claimed that they have set aside many acres for a country park in the new town (around 500 in total, currently sitting around 92 acres) but given that this was previously scrub or farmland then the green space element isn’t really gaining too much. Then again it is better than all concrete and at least you can get a view to Dartmoor from there. This weekend it was Storm Darragh, so we hunkered down and listened to the 60-70mph winds on the Saturday, before heading out on the Sunday, still in the same winds, for a nosey around the new town. And who doesn’t like a good nosey at other new houses, making comments about how yours is better, and that you don’t like the north facing garden on that one, and other such comments! My youngest was out on Dartmoor in a force hoolie, doing some 10 tors practice walking, proud dad moment. I saw some videos of him on Great Kneeset, leaning into the wind and staying upright. Made of sterner stuff that boy š. It was nice to be out in some lovely sunshine and seeing what consists of our country park and what may become a local walk for us.

Happy new home, and happy first Christmas to you all xxx

Wonderful to read stories of kids out and about outside. Yours is certainly made of sterner stuff. I’m seeing more kids enjoying fishing around the harbour with their friends. Fun to see. Have a wonderful Christmas in your new home.

Absolutely it did survive the all out assault on that end of the house

Hapy first Christmas in your new home! Such great views from the new place towards Dartmoor. I’ve never seen a new “town” being built before, but it’s nice to see they are making room for greenspace š

Very best wishes in your new home. The new town near us in Exeter – Cranbrook – has been growing steadily over several years and it has been interesting to see it developing. The residents there are just celebrating the opening of a supermarket, which has been a long time coming. Like Sherford, the planners have retained several areas as green space which is positive.

Those that moved here earliest are complaining about the lack of a shop after 5 years of living here, but then again to get in here you pass by many supermarkets, so not all bad

Interesting to see a town which is half finished. You got some blue sky! Lucky you. I’m beginning to think it’s fictional.

More rain yesterday, today and looks like the same tomorrow. So normality is resumed

A very, very belated Happy Xmas and New Year to you Linda and the boys. Looks like a nice little community and anywhere with a bit of green space nearby is good with me. We are thinking about downsizing and moving if I can ever pull my finger out!

Will you move far if you do?

We had an idea to move up to near where Mark lives but I doubt we could afford to. Jane also really enjoys her job so makes no sense to move out of the area as location is pretty unimportant for my job. I would like to live somewhere with better walking from the door
