Brixham

We’d booked a couple of days off work and had a few things planned, one was a day just bimbling around, record shops, lunch, that sort of thing. Another was a proper walk somewhere, and finally some sanding on a dark stained dresser. The sanding took 2 of those days, and still isn’t finished, although we have broken the back of the work. The walk was around north Dartmoor and will be in a future post, and the bimbling day was here, in Brixham, the south part of Torbay. Famous as a fishing port, Brixham in places does look a little tired but its a lovely walk around the quayside and out to the long harbour pier. You can walk further to Berry Head, but we didn’t fancy that as we wanted to have a look around the record shop. Another advantage of coming to these places at this time of year is the parking prices, which tend to be cut considerably in the winter months, as they were here. A lovely day out with my favourite girl and some good shopping for records, one of my favourite pastimes.

Starting off by the 1/3 sized model of the Golden Hind, moored here in Brixham harbour. Famous for taking Sir Francis Drake around the world
The walk begins as we walk out along the pier, and taking the photos as we head back. That’s Torbay stretching out beyond the pier
The lighthouse at the end of the pier
Torquay across Torbay, the barely visible island to the right is Thatcher’s Rock (no not because of that one)
Its a fairly long pier this one, Berry Head off to the left probably isn’t much further than walking out to the lighthouse behind me
Into the sun, Brixham harbour
Linda is ready for the walk back and a mooch in the record shop here.
Looks partly sepia looking into the sun across the harbour
Brixham is also famous for the being the location where the American troops set off for Utah beach as part of the D Day landings. The slipway here was built in May 1943 to enable training exercises first, before being used famously on 6th June 1944
Boats in the harbour
They have a festival of Christmas lights here in Brixham, and they also have a number of these gardens kept by the local people for the area.
Final shot as we reach the main part of the harbour, nothing too strenuous today, and enjoyable walk in the sun around a lovely harbour. A perfect day off work.
