Crag Fell and Lank Rigg

More time up in the Lake District this week and a chance for some winter walking. This first one however wasn’t full on snow, just a bit of frost and ice on the paths and a fresh wind. These three fells make an excellent round and the views from Crag Fell along Ennerdale are some of the best there is. The descent off Lank Rigg can be tricky however I stayed on the path around the edge of Lank Rigg Moss and therefore stayed dry. A good start to the week.

Start – Cold Fell Road
Route – Blakeley Moss – Grike – Crag Fell – Whoap – Lank Rigg – Lank Rigg Moss – River Calder – Cold Fell Road
Distance – 6.5miles    Start time – 9.30am     Time taken –  3 1/2hrs    Highest Point – Lank Rigg 541m
Weather – Sunny and blue sky, frost underfoot. Beautiful

Parked by Blakeley Moss on the Cold Fell Road gives you this lovely view across to Blake Fell and the surrounding Western Fells
On the path through the forest you get these views back to the coastline and across to Scotland
Bright sun with Lank Rigg over on the right and Whoap straight ahead, I’ll be on those two later.
Grike is the first target, just follow the frosty path!
