My second visit to Castle Drogo this year, this time I had a look around the castle as well as a short walk. The walk is one of the published walks available from the shop and is the very short walk of just over a mile. I also added on Hunters Tor as an easy extension as it would be rude to come all the way here and not visit. All in all an easy day out at a nice national trust property which will only get better once the work on the castle is completed.
Start – Castle Drogo parking |
Route – Sharp Tor – Hunters Tor – Castle Drogo |
Distance – 1.5 miles Start time – 12.45pm Time taken – 1hr Highest Point – 250m Castle Drogo |
Weather – Grey skies but no rain |

The heather is starting to colour nicely. Castle Drogo can be seen with its tarpaulin above the trees

Looking the other way, the eagle eyed of you will see Hunters Tor at the end of spur running right to left
I liked Castle Drogo when we visited a few years back, interesting idea. Need to go back on walk around the gorge as it looks stunning

Its a lovely walk. Head to Fingle bridge, stop at he pub, naturally. And then head back the other side. No more than 4 miles, easy peasy
